HORSE DONATION PROGRAM

We are actively looking for more suitable candidates for this very important job to serve as trusty partners and four-legged therapists. All STRC horses will be hand-picked, thoroughly evaluated and extensively trained before working with clients.

Best-suited horses can be:

  • Any breed
  • Geldings preferred, mares accepted
  • Age 5-20 years old
  • Height: 13-16 hands max
  • Completely saddle broke and trained
  • Well schooled, with a regular exercise regimen
  • Sound in walk, trot, canter and good physical condition
  • Impeccable ground manners
  • Calm temperament and get along with other horses

Horses with insulin resistance, Cushing’s Disease, ringbone or that have foundered will not be considered for our program.

If the horse seems suitable to be a therapy horse, and we have a need for that particular size and type of horse, we bring the horse in for a 90-day probation period to see if it adjusts well to the unique requirements of riders with special needs.

If you feel your horse meets these requirements, please contact us.  Once contacted, an evaluation will be set at your barn or at one of ours.
