Mindfulness with Horses

“Mindful Connections With Horses” is a new Equine Assisted Learning(EAL) program offered by Sunshine Therapeutic Riding Center in collaboration with Mindfulness facilitator Erika Muelle.

Pause, tune in and connect at a deeper and more conscious level with yourself, horses and nature in a safe, peaceful environment, using mindfulness activities including breathwork, guided visualizations, sound and coherence practices. all in the presence of these amazing horses. This unique experience will help you relax, reduce stress, and increase self-awareness.

WHY HORSES

Because horses are prey animals, they are extremely sensitive to their surroundings which makes them excellent mindfulness teachers. They show us moment-to-moment where our thoughts are, and respond to our emotions and behaviors. They are also capable of hearing our heartbeat four feet away. Knowing this gives us an opportunity to become more self-aware. The practices used in the sessions provide the tools to be more present and mindful, which helps us regulate our own heartbeat and reset our nervous system. At Sunshine Therapeutic Riding Center, we have the foundational belief in the ability for horses and humans to learn and grow from one another in beneficial ways.

FACILITATOR: Erika Muelle

Erika retired from the software industry of 30 years to pursue her dream of partnering with horses to help others on their journey of healing and self-discovery. She is trained as a mindfulness facilitator, sound healer, yoga instructor and Equine Integrative Energy & Bodyworker. Her experience includes facilitating mindfulness practices for UAMS, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and The Yoga Place and other yoga & meditation facilities around the world.

HOW IT WORKS

Monthly sessions are offered at our facility (riding arena) during the warmer months, May to November. Sessions are 2 hours long. Facilitator Erika will guide participants through breathwork, guided visualizations, sound and coherence practices while 2-3 horses are present in the arena with the participants. There is no riding, horsemanship skills are not taught or needed, anyone can attend regardless of physical limitations, and participation is by choice – for both horses and humans. This is an

outdoor event. We depend on the weather. Dress accordingly.
